Kunstsalon Wolfsberg, Arts venue in Bederstrasse, Zürich, Switzerland.
Kunstsalon Wolfsberg was an arts venue located at Bederstrasse 109 in Zürich that combined exhibition spaces with printing operations and residential units in a single building. The place functioned as both a gallery for showing art and a workshop for creating lithographic prints.
Founded in 1911 by lithographer Johann Edwin Wolfensberger, this venue grew out of a successful modern Swiss art exhibition held at Villa Osenbrüggen in 1908. The earlier exhibition demonstrated strong public interest in contemporary artistic work in Zürich.
The salon displayed works by Swiss painters like Cuno Amiet and Alberto Giacometti alongside French art exhibitions, creating a space where visitors could encounter modern artistic voices. This combination of local and international artists shaped how people in Zürich experienced contemporary art during that era.
The location sits in a residential area along Bederstrasse and is now difficult to identify since the building was converted into private apartments. Visitors interested in the historical site should know that it is now private property and can only be viewed from outside.
The building is now protected as a historical monument even though it has lost its original function completely. The lithography workshop actually moved to another Zürich location much earlier than the gallery closure, in 1928.
