Hardwaldturm, Wooden observation tower in Dietlikon, Switzerland
Hardwaldturm is a wooden observation tower in Dietlikon standing about 41.5 meters tall with four viewing platforms. The climb involves 210 wooden steps that lead to views extending across the surrounding forest landscape.
The tower was conceived in 2018 through cooperation between local forest authorities and five municipalities, with construction completed by July 2022. The goal was to make the nearby forest accessible to visitors while maintaining its natural character.
The tower has become a gathering place for hikers and forest enthusiasts who visit to experience the woodland from above. Locals and visitors alike use it as a starting point for discovering the natural surroundings on foot.
The base of the tower has drinking water fountains and grilling areas for visitors spending time there. Vehicle access is not permitted to preserve the surrounding forest environment.
The structure consists of four stacked 10-meter segments with large openings that reveal different forest layers as you climb higher. This design lets visitors experience the vertical structure of the forest in an unusually direct way.
