Former Residence of Zhang Wentian

The Former Residence of Zhang Wentian is a protected house in Pudong that displays traditional Qing-era architecture with brick and wood construction typical of the period. Multiple rooms contain exhibits and personal items that document his life and background.

This house was built during the Guangxu Emperor period of the Qing dynasty as the home of Zhang Wentian, who later became the fourth General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party. It received protected status in 1985 and underwent complete restoration in 1989.

The house features traditional brick and wood construction from the late Qing period, showing how educated families lived during that time. Walking through the rooms gives you a sense of daily life in Shanghai's past.

The residence has been open to visitors since 1992 and contains displays about his life and role in the Communist Party. The house is straightforward to tour, with exhibits arranged throughout the rooms for easy understanding.

The house was designated as a National Patriotic Education Base in 2004, making it an important venue for learning about the early Communist movement in China. Inside, visitors discover historical documents and personal items that offer a rare glimpse into Zhang Wentian's world.
