Dalai Nur, Nature reserve and lake in Hexigten Banner, China
Dalai Nur is a salt lake located in the western part of Hexigten Banner, situated at an elevation of 1244 meters (4082 feet). The water body dominates the flat landscape and is bordered by shorelines that stretch across considerable distances.
The lake lies within Hexigten Banner, whose territory was organized as a Mongolian administrative zone during the Qing Dynasty. This administrative structure shaped settlement and land use in the region across several centuries.
The lake area is home to Mongolian, Han Chinese, Korean, Hui, Manchu, and other communities who maintain their own traditions and ways of life. Local people use this landscape for traditional activities that shape daily life in the region.
The area is normally accessible between 08:30 and 17:30, and visitors should plan to arrive by private vehicle. Public transportation is limited in this remote region, making personal transport the most practical option.
The northwest shore features volcanic formations including basalt plateaus and extinct volcano plugs that once formed islands when water levels were higher. These geological features create an unusual backdrop in the otherwise flat landscape.
