Great Hall of the People, Government building in China
The Great Hall of the People is a state building located at the western edge of Tiananmen Square in Beijing.
It was constructed in 1959 as part of the Ten Great Buildings project celebrating the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
The building is used for legislative and ceremonial activities by the government of the People's Republic of China and the Communist Party of China.
The Great Hall of the People is open to the public when it is not in use for official functions or state affairs.
The building covers 171,800 square meters (1,849,239 sq ft), which is considered one of the largest parliamentary buildings in the world.
