Great Hall of the People

This facility is a government building at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. It consists of several assembly halls and a central auditorium with high ceilings and rows of seating.

Architect Zhang Bo designed the complex in 1959 as a permanent seat for the National People's Congress. Completion took place within a short construction period amid political transformations of that era.

The name refers to its function as a meeting place for representatives from across the country. Its architecture combines elements of classical Chinese construction with functional structures that allow for large gathering spaces.

The building is not accessible during parliamentary sessions in spring and during diplomatic events. On certain days, organized tours provide insight into selected halls and sections of the facility.

The ceiling of the main hall displays a red star in the center, surrounded by lights arranged in circular patterns. This lighting forms a design that illuminates the entire space during assemblies.
