The National Museum of China spans 200,000 square meters with 48 exhibition halls displaying over 1.4 million artifacts from Chinese civilization.
The museum building, completed in 1959, represents one of the Ten Great Buildings celebrating the tenth anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
The permanent collection contains 1,050,000 items representing Chinese history from prehistoric times through the Qing dynasty, including bronzeware and jade artifacts.
Entry to general exhibitions requires valid identification, and the museum operates from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, remaining closed on Mondays except holidays.
The museum holds the distinction of having the largest single building area among museums worldwide and contains the most extensive collection of Chinese cultural relics.
