Beijing Railway Museum

Beijing Railway Museum is a railway museum in the Qianmen area that displays more than 40 locomotives, including steam, diesel, and electric engines. The collection is spread across exhibition halls where visitors can see different types of trains from various periods of development.

The building began as Zhengyangmen East Railway Station in 1901, marking when modern rail transport first arrived in northern China. This location became significant in the early development of the country's railway system during the early 20th century.

The exhibits show how railways shaped the way people and goods moved across China and connected distant regions. Visitors can observe how this transportation network became woven into the country's growth and daily life.

The museum is located near Tiananmen Square and can be reached by several bus routes in the area. It is closed on Mondays, so visitors should plan their visit accordingly and allow enough time to explore the full collection of locomotives.

The museum holds the first steam locomotive built domestically after 1949 and special train cars that once carried China's top national leaders. These vehicles reveal how railways played a role in the country's modern story.
