Red Guard Liaison Station of Beijing Universities and Middle Schools, Former watchtower and student headquarters in Beijing, China
The Red Guard Liaison Station is a former coordination center in Beijing that housed student organizations during the Cultural Revolution. The building contained offices and meeting rooms where representatives from schools and universities across the city gathered to organize their activities.
The station opened in 1966 as a response to growing student activism during the Cultural Revolution. It became the main coordination hub where student movements across Beijing organized and directed their campaigns throughout the late 1960s.
The station functioned as a communication hub where student organizations planned their activities and distributed materials about revolutionary ideals to other educational institutions.
The site is located near Tiananmen Square and can be reached easily using Beijing's public transportation system. Visitors should allow time to walk through the spaces carefully and read available information about the student activities that took place there.
The station processed registrations for approximately 10 million people, revealing the scale of its reach and influence. This enormous number demonstrates how deeply student organizations penetrated across the entire city and its educational institutions.
