Ring of Life

Ring of Life is a circular steel structure in Fushun that rises prominently over the city skyline with a diameter of 157 meters. The structure houses elevators that lead to an observation platform, allowing visitors to view the surrounding city from above.

The structure was completed in the late 2000s as part of a broader initiative to transform Fushun into a contemporary urban center. Its construction marked a turning point in the city's development, shifting focus away from its coal-mining heritage toward modern landmarks.

The monument was designed to represent Fushun's transformation from a coal-mining past toward a modern urban future. Local residents view the circular form as a statement about the city's commitment to renewal and fresh beginnings.

Access to the observation platform is provided by elevators running through the interior of the structure. It is worth noting that the installation is illuminated by LED lighting at night, making it worthwhile to visit at different times of day.

The structure resulted from an international collaboration with an American entertainment designer rather than emerging from purely local design efforts. This unusual partnership for a Chinese urban project reflects the global nature of contemporary city planning.
