Longtan Park, Urban recreational park in Dongcheng District, Beijing, China
Longtan Park is an urban recreation area of about 120 hectares in Dongcheng District, Beijing. The grounds feature a central lake crossed by several elegant bridges, along with rock gardens, walking paths, and traditional tea houses.
The site served as a quarry during the Ming Dynasty under the Jiajing Emperor, where earth and clay were extracted for brick production. These bricks were later used in constructing Beijing's city walls.
The name comes from the central lake, which holds meaning in Chinese tradition and symbolism. The bridges and gardens around the water reflect classic design principles that visitors encounter while walking through the space.
The park offers different areas to explore, from quiet walks on the paths to boating on the lake. There is also a running track on the grounds if you want to move around or exercise.
The grounds are known for dragon sculptures scattered throughout, including large figures made from vegetation and flowers at different locations. These representations of dragon mythology create a visual thread that runs across the entire park.
