Beiting

Beiting is an archaeological site in Xinjiang containing remains of ancient city walls, residential quarters, and religious buildings spanning multiple periods. The ruins show layers of different settlements stacked upon each other, documenting thousands of years of human activity.

The settlement originated in early ancient times and reached its peak during the Tang Dynasty, when it served as a major trading post. After this period, the place was gradually abandoned and covered by layers of dust and earth.

The structures display features from multiple eras, showing how different peoples left their mark on this place over time. Walking through reveals how various groups coexisted and influenced each other here.

The site is reachable by road from larger towns and guided tours operate regularly throughout the year. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and allow time to explore the scattered ruins at a leisurely pace.

Among the excavated objects are fine pottery and textiles that reveal how goods were exchanged between east and west. These finds provide insight into everyday trade relationships that spanned centuries.
