Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, International airport in Yubei District, China
Jiangbei Airport sits in Yubei District and serves as the main international gateway for the city of Chongqing. The facility includes three terminals covering 730,800 square meters combined, along with three runways ranging from 3,200 to 3,800 meters in length.
The facility began operations in January 1990, replacing the earlier Baishiyi Airport, which then converted into a military base. Since then, the site has grown into one of the busiest airports in western China.
The airport connects Chongqing with over 300 destinations across Asia, Europe and North America, serving as a gateway to western China's metropolitan area. Travelers from 53 countries can take advantage of the 144-hour visa-free transit policy, allowing brief city visits between flights.
Terminal 3A sits farther from the city center than the older buildings, so travelers should allow extra time for the journey. Metro lines 2 and 3, airport shuttle buses or taxis take around 45 minutes from downtown Chongqing.
Terminal 3A handles both domestic and international flights within a single building, simplifying transfer procedures. The terminal architecture uses natural light through large glass surfaces that brighten the interior spaces during the day.
