History
The site opened in 1991 as Shenzhen Huangtian Airport, replacing the earlier downtown facility. The facility grew alongside the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and introduced a new terminal in 2013 after several expansions, tripling passenger capacity.

The terminals show Chinese design principles through curved roofs and open halls that echo traditional architecture. Travelers move through large areas with calligraphy and regional art that connect Bao'an to the metropolitan region.
