Stone City

Stone City is an ancient fortified site in Nanjing featuring stone walls that run along hillsides overlooking river junctions. The preserved sections show massive wall construction from different periods, revealing how earlier defenses were engineered and maintained over time.

The site was founded during the Warring States period by the Chu kingdom and significantly expanded during the Han Dynasty. It later served as a training base for military forces and underwent modifications during subsequent periods of change.

The walls display traditional Chinese military construction with detailed stonework from multiple dynasties. Visitors can observe these crafted details in the preserved sections and understand how defense structures were built across generations.

The site can be reached by public transport with multiple entry points leading to different wall sections. Comfortable footwear is recommended since exploration involves walking along hillside terrain and through uneven preservation areas.
