Yumen Pass, Mountain pass in China
Yumen Pass, also known as Jade Gate, is a mountain pass located west of Dunhuang in today's Gansu Province.
In ancient times, it was the main pass through which the Silk Road passed, entering Central Asia from China.
It's part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Silk Roads: The Routes Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor'.
Nowadays, it's a popular tourist attraction and archeological site.
Despite its name - 'Jade Gate', no jade was ever transported through here. The name sprouted from an ancient practice of chiseling jade into gate-like forms.
