Gauri Sankar, Mountain in the Himalayas
Gauri Sankar is a breathtaking twin-peaked mountain located in Nepal.
The name Gauri Sankar comes from Sanskrit where Gauri is another name for the Goddess Parvati while Shankar is synonymous with Lord Shiva.
The mountain is considered sacred by the local population and is associated with the Tibetan Buddhist deity Tseringma.
Due to its sacredness, climbing Gauri Sankar was prohibited until 1979.
