Kandze Monastery

The monastery stands on a hilltop 2 kilometers north of Ganzi Town, featuring multiple halls connected by passageways supported by red wooden columns.

Founded in 1662, Kandze Monastery developed into one of the largest religious centers in the Kham region, initially housing 1,500 monks during its peak period.

The monastery maintains an extensive collection of traditional paintings, including three sets of images depicting founders of Nyingmapa, Kadampa, and Gelugpa lineages.

The site currently houses 700 monks and includes a library containing the Kangyur, with main buildings accessible through designated pathways leading to the inner sanctum.

The monastery contains a Gonkhang room dedicated to guardian deities, accessible through a black and gold door displaying specific painted images of protector entities.
