Yunnan Provincial Museum

The Yunnan Provincial Museum is a public building in Kunming that spans multiple floors housing extensive collections about the province's history. The exhibition spaces display artwork, historical documents, and everyday objects from various ethnic groups, all presented in modern, temperature-controlled rooms.

The museum was founded in 1951 and played an important role in documenting and preserving Yunnan's cultures following the establishment of the People's Republic. A move to a new building in 2015 allowed the collections to be displayed in better spaces with modern exhibition capabilities.

The museum displays objects that reflect the daily life and customs of Yunnan's different ethnic communities. You can see traditional textiles, jewelry, and religious items still used by these groups today.

The museum is located in Guandu District and is accessible by various forms of transportation, with plenty of parking space for visitors. A visit is best planned on weekdays when there are fewer crowds.

The collection includes hundreds of artworks and objects that originally belonged to a military officer from an earlier government era and were later acquired. These pieces tell a story of a transitional period and are now among the institution's most valuable holdings.
