One Shenzhen Bay, 71-story skyscraper in Yuehai Subdistrict, China.
One Shenzhen Bay is a 71-floor tower in the Yuehai subdistrict of Shenzhen, China, combining residential units, office spaces, and ground-level retail under one roof. The building also has three underground levels used mainly for parking.
Construction started in 2014 and was completed in 2018, during a period when Shenzhen was growing faster than almost any other major city in the world. The tower was built in a district that had transformed from industrial land into one of China's most modern business areas within just a few decades.
One Shenzhen Bay was designed by New York-based firm Kohn Pedersen Fox, which has shaped much of the skyline in cities across Asia. The glass facade catches the light differently throughout the day, giving the tower a changing appearance depending on when you look at it.
The tower is close to a metro station and easy to reach by public transit. Not all areas are open to everyone, so it is worth checking in advance which parts of the building visitors can access freely.
The gardens and outdoor areas around the tower were designed by AECOM and create a gradual connection between the building and the coastal path along Shenzhen Bay. Walking around the base of the tower, you notice how the outdoor space feels like part of the waterfront rather than just the entrance to a building.
