East Taihang Glasswalk, Glass footbridge in East Taihang Mountains, China.
The East Taihang Glasswalk is a glass-floored footbridge set along the cliff face of the Taihang Mountains in Hebei province, China. The walkway runs parallel to a sheer rock wall, with open drops on one side and views across the mountain valleys below.
The bridge opened in 2017 during a period when glass walkways were being built at mountain sites across China. It closed in 2019 for safety regulation updates, which led to a wider review of similar structures in the country.
The walkway is designed with interactive digital effects that respond to each step, a style of visitor experience that has become popular at Chinese mountain attractions. Visitors often pause mid-crossing to watch the simulated cracking spread beneath their feet.
Visiting requires an advance reservation, and entry is not allowed during rain or low visibility. The site is reached from Xingtai city, where transport options toward the mountain area are available.
The floor panels are made of several layers of laminated glass that will not shatter under pressure, so the cracking effect visitors see is entirely digital, projected on a screen beneath their feet. This means the glass itself never breaks, even when it appears to.
