China National Botanical Garden

The China National Botanical Garden is a sprawling botanical garden in Haidian, Beijing, where diverse plant collections from around the world grow across rolling terrain. The garden is organized into thematic zones where visitors encounter tropical plants, fruit orchards, and tree collections displayed in naturalistic settings.

The garden was officially established as a national institution in 2022, building on decades of botanical research that took place on the site. This consolidation brought together previously separate plant collections under one unified botanical facility.

The garden weaves together botanical science with Chinese heritage through temples and memorials scattered throughout its grounds. These spaces create a sense of spiritual connection alongside the natural world.

The grounds are quite large, so comfortable shoes and plenty of time are needed to explore different sections thoroughly. Spring and autumn are ideal visiting seasons when weather is mild and plants are most vibrant throughout the garden.

The site houses a substantial research center with specimen storage rooms and laboratories normally hidden from public view. This scientific core transforms it beyond a simple garden into an active research facility where plant science continues behind the scenes.
