Hůrka, Artillery fort and military museum in Králíky, Czech Republic.
Hůrka is a fortified complex built into the hillside near Králíky with multiple levels connected by underground passages. The site contains artillery emplacements, infantry shelters, and supporting rooms carved into the rock beneath the surface.
The fort was built during the 1950s as part of Czechoslovak defense planning. It operated as an ammunition depot starting in 1958 until its closure in 2008.
The site reveals how people used this space during different eras of conflict and defense. Walking through the chambers, you experience the reality of military life that once filled these underground spaces.
Reaching the upper levels requires climbing several steep staircases over about 150 feet (50 meters), so wear sturdy footwear. The passages are narrow and uneven in places, which is typical of built-into-hillside fortifications.
Visible damage on the concrete structure comes from German military tests conducted at this location. The cracks and broken surfaces remain as evidence of how heavy the artillery impacts were during those historical experiments.
