Falkensee, Urban municipality in Havelland District, Germany
Falkensee is a town municipality in Havelland District that sits just west of Berlin. The settlement spreads across flat terrain with residential neighborhoods, parks and small commercial zones, crossed by roads that lead to neighboring communities.
Two smaller settlements, Falkenhagen and Seegefeld, joined together in 1923 to form a single municipality. During World War II, a subcamp of Sachsenhausen concentration camp operated here.
The streets show a mix of older housing estates and newer homes that appeared after reunification. The town hall serves as a central meeting point where residents gather at events throughout the year.
The railway station connects the town to Berlin's commuter rail network, and regional buses run through the different neighborhoods. Paths and streets are mostly level, making it easy to get around on foot or by bicycle.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, the population doubled within a few decades through new arrivals. Many of the new residents moved here from Berlin, seeking more housing space and quieter surroundings.
