Meerane is a town in western Saxony within the Zwickau district, situated at approximately 253 meters in elevation. The municipality sits near the Thuringia border and offers convenient access to Leipzig and Dresden.
The town originated over 800 years ago with architecture from its founding period still visible today. Art nouveau buildings from later centuries also shape the current appearance of the townscape.
The ART-IN Meerane gallery displays contemporary paintings, graphics, sculptures, and photographs from local and regional artists. Visitors experience current artistic work in a dedicated exhibition space.
The town center provides multiple sports facilities for football, handball, ice hockey, tennis, and bowling. Underground parking with electric vehicle charging stations is available for visitors.
The Steile Wand is a notable cobblestone ascent running through the town with a steep slope. Cyclists appreciate this passage for the challenge it presents when riding through.
