Schloss Ponitz, Renaissance manor house in Ponitz, Germany
The rectangular building features two full stories with coffered ceilings and stands on the right bank of the Pleiße river in Thuringia.
The castle's origins trace back to the 11th century, with the first documented mention in 1254 naming Friedericus de Ponitz as the owner.
The castle transforms into a Christmas market venue each December, where local artisans display traditional crafts and regional specialties.
Visitors can access the castle grounds and park daily through Gößnitzer Straße 2, with special events occurring throughout the year.
The basement contains preserved elements of the original water castle, revealing the structure's medieval foundations beneath the Renaissance architecture.
