Schloss Ponitz

Schloss Ponitz is a rectangular Renaissance manor house standing on the right bank of the Pleiße river in Thuringia. The building features two complete stories with coffered ceilings and is surrounded by park-like grounds.

The castle's origins date to the 11th century, with the first documented mention in 1254 naming Friedericus de Ponitz as the owner. The present-day Renaissance structure evolved from these medieval landholdings.

The castle serves as a Christmas market venue each December, where local artisans display traditional crafts and regional food specialties. Visitors experience regional traditions and local artisanship in a festive setting.

The castle grounds and park are accessible daily through Gößnitzer Straße 2, allowing for a leisurely walk around the property. Special events take place throughout the year, making each visit a unique experience.

The basement preserves elements of the original water castle, revealing medieval foundations beneath the Renaissance exterior. These hidden layers show the site's longer and more complex architectural evolution.
