Schloss Burgau

Schloss Burgau is a water castle built on an island-like plot surrounded by water-filled moats within Düren's forest area. The building comprises interconnected wings that were expanded over centuries and now contains exhibition spaces and event halls.

The castle was founded around 1100 as a fortified structure and gained its present form through medieval expansions. Multiple wings were added in different periods, ultimately reflecting its evolution into a representative residence.

The gazebo building from the 16th century displays detailed relief decorations that reflect German noble taste. These rooms served as private retreats for the castle residents and still shape the character of the complex today.

The castle is located within the city's forested area and is easily accessible on foot or by bike. Visitors should be aware that access may vary depending on events, and checking in advance about opening conditions is recommended.

The registry office holds wedding ceremonies in the gazebo building on select Saturdays, making the castle a wedding venue. This privilege makes the location particularly appealing for couples and shows how historical spaces still serve personal occasions today.
