Fritz Walter Stadium, Football stadium in Kaiserslautern, Germany
Fritz Walter Stadium is an association football venue in Kaiserslautern built on Betzenberg hill. The facility holds four covered stands and accommodates up to 49,780 visitors during national and international fixtures.
The ground opened in 1920 with a wooden stand and a sandy pitch. Before hosting matches in 2006, the site underwent extensive rebuilding and expansion works.
The venue bears the name of a local player who became a symbol of the region after World War II. Residents often call the ground simply "Betze," referring to the hill where it stands.
The venue sits roughly five minutes uphill on foot from the main railway station. Visitors can book guided tours through player areas and press facilities.
During the 2006 tournament, the round of 16 match between Italy and Australia took place here. Altogether, five games of that competition were held on Betzenberg.
