Tönisvorst

Tönisvorst is a medium-sized town in Viersen district, North Rhine-Westphalia, situated near the Dutch border. The town contains residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and green spaces that shape everyday life for its residents.

Tönisvorst formed in 1970 through the merger of two former communities, Sankt Tönis and Vorst, into a single administrative unit. This union combined two localities with separate histories into one coherent municipality within Viersen district.

The town maintains international relationships through partnerships with Laakdal in Belgium, Sées in France, and Staré Město in the Czech Republic.

The town is easily accessible by car and public transit, with good connections to Düsseldorf and other regional cities. For visitors, the two main town centers of Sankt Tönis and Vorst are useful reference points, as these areas concentrate most local facilities.

During summer 2019, one of Germany's highest recorded temperatures was measured in the town. This heat record was shared with another German location and illustrates the extreme weather conditions the region can experience.
