The Zeiss Major Planetarium is a planetarium and movie theater in Pankow with a 30-meter dome and advanced projection technology. The building contains two separate halls for astronomical presentations and cinema screenings.
The planetarium opened in 1987 as part of Berlin's 750th anniversary celebrations and was one of the final major buildings constructed by East Germany. It emerged at the end of an era that had shaped the city for generations.
The planetarium hosts astronomy programs, science shows, theatrical performances, music concerts, and audio dramas beneath its large dome throughout the year. This variety attracts different types of audiences and makes the space a gathering point for many kinds of events.
