Red Bull Arena, Football stadium in Leipzig, Germany.
Red Bull Arena is an association football venue in Leipzig serving as home ground for the Bundesliga team. The facility holds more than 47,000 spectators and combines a modern metal structure with the old outer walls from the previous stadium.
The original Zentralstadion rose on this site between 1954 and 1956, becoming one of the largest sports venues in Europe at the time. The present arena was erected between 2000 and 2004, using the preserved outer walls of the former facility as an outer shell.
The arena takes its name from the Austrian sponsor who acquired the football club in 2009 and quickly brought it into the top tiers of German football. On match days, the seats fill with supporters who chant songs and wave red and white flags.
Tram lines 3, 7, and 15 stop at Waldplatz or Sportforum stations within walking distance of the venue. For those arriving by car, limited parking spots are available along Am Sportforum street.
Workers used rubble from World War II destruction to build the original stadium during the 1950s. Despite the complete interior renewal, the old concrete walls remain standing outside and now frame the modern metal structure within.
