Marienstern Abbey, Gothic monastery in Mühlberg/Elbe, Germany
The brick-built Marienstern Abbey features a single-aisled church that combines Gothic architecture with Romanesque elements throughout its structure.
Founded in 1228 by Otto and Bodo of Ileburg, the abbey received support from Henry III, Margrave of Meissen, who permitted the conversion of Mühlberg's parish church.
The abbey maintains its religious function as home to Claretian missionary brothers while serving as a center for interfaith dialogue between Catholic and Protestant communities.
Visitors can schedule individual or group stays at the abbey to participate in various activities, including workshops, concerts, and cultural exhibitions throughout the year.
The monastery's refectory, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries, underwent a transformation in 1820 when it was modified for agricultural purposes.
