Schloss Eicks

Schloss Eicks is a Renaissance château near Mechernich featuring three adjoining wings and a separate manor house surrounded by a water-filled moat. The layout creates a cohesive ensemble where the central structure and additional buildings frame the waterway running around them.

The castle was founded in the 14th century, destroyed in 1365, and rebuilt in 1680 by Hermann Dietrich von Syberg using salvageable medieval foundations. This reconstruction blended remnants of the earlier fortress with new architectural approaches of that era.

The Syberg family has shaped the castle's character over centuries, ensuring its Renaissance features remain visible in daily maintenance and care. You can sense this continuity in the refined architectural details throughout the grounds.

The estate remains private property, though sections can be reserved for special occasions and celebrations throughout the year. Visitors should check in advance about access opportunities, as the grounds are not always open to the public.

Each year around Corpus Christi, the grounds host a Country Homes garden festival showcasing the geometric gardens with structured pathways and boxwood borders. This seasonal opening lets visitors experience the formal garden design in all its deliberate detail.
