Coffe Baum, Historic coffeehouse in Leipzig, Germany
Coffee Baum is a four-story coffeehouse in Leipzig featuring traditional décor, wooden furniture, and decorative elements spread across different levels. The various dining rooms showcase the classic design of an established coffeehouse from earlier eras.
The building was first recorded in 1556 and began serving coffee in 1711. This made it one of Europe's oldest continuously operating coffeehouses.
The name comes from a baroque sculpture on the facade showing an oriental figure reaching for coffee. Visitors can still see the historic dining rooms where artists and thinkers gathered.
The coffeehouse is located at Kleine Fleischergasse 4 and remains closed for renovation until spring 2025. The city museum handles inquiries during this closure period.
Musicians such as Robert Schumann and Johann Sebastian Bach regularly met at specific tables to discuss art. These gatherings made it an important meeting place for Leipzig's artistic community.
