Silbersee, Lake and water park in Langenhagen, Germany.
Silbersee is a lake with three sandy beaches in Langenhagen, north of Hannover, bordered by shallow water zones along much of its shoreline. The water gets deeper toward the center, and grassy areas behind the beaches offer space to sit or lie down.
The lake formed between 1934 and 1935 as a side effect of highway construction in the area, when excavation work left a depression that filled with groundwater. It was later developed as a bathing site and became a popular destination for families from Hannover and the surrounding region.
The lake transformed into a popular recreation spot in the 1960s, where visitors can now enjoy playgrounds, mini-golf, and dining options. These amenities shape the character of the place today and make it a gathering point for families and friends in the area.
The lake is open during the summer swimming season, and lifeguards are present on weekends and public holidays when the weather is good. Arriving early in the morning or on a weekday helps avoid the busiest periods, especially on hot days.
The reed beds along parts of the shoreline are closed to swimmers and serve as a refuge for several bird species that nest there. The name Silbersee means silver lake in German, a reference to the way the water surface appears to shimmer in certain light conditions.
