Benedictine Abbey of Abdinghof, Paderborn

The Benedictine Abbey of Abdinghof features traditional monastic architecture with multiple wings surrounding a central courtyard and a church displaying Gothic elements.

Founded in 1015, the monastery maintained extensive land holdings in the Weser region and along the Lower Rhine, extending its influence to the Netherlands.

The abbey complex included a substantial library, school, and hospice, making it a center of education and care for the local population.

The church building, now operating as a Protestant-Lutheran parish, remains open to visitors daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Between 1883 and 1887, the abbey underwent substantial renovations where Baroque furnishings were replaced with neo-Gothic elements, later removed in 1938.
