Grünwalder Stadion, Football stadium in Giesing, Germany
Grünwalder Stadion is a multi-purpose sports venue in the Giesing district of Munich, now used mainly by TSV 1860 Munich and Bayern Munich II. Its western terrace forms the most recognizable feature, offering a curved standing section that holds 9,000 people.
The venue opened in 1911 to host local teams and quickly became home to TSV 1860 Munich and Bayern Munich. Both clubs moved to the Olympiastadion in 1972, yet the Grünwalder Stadion remained active for youth and reserve squads.
The name honors the nearby Grünwalder Straße, giving the venue its local roots. Football fans from Giesing meet at neighborhood pubs before matches and walk through residential streets to reach the ground.
Access is mostly on foot from surrounding residential areas, as parking is limited. The current capacity of 15,000 means teams moving up to higher divisions must find larger venues for their home matches.
In 1948, a crowd of 58,200 squeezed into the ground to watch TSV 1860 Munich face FC Nurnberg. That figure remains the all-time attendance record and shows how much safety regulations have changed since then.
