Büraburg, Castle ruin and archaeological site in Fritzlar, Germany.

Bürasburg is a castle ruin and archaeological site on a hill overlooking the Eder River with visible stone walls and foundations from different periods. The complex includes remains of a church called St. Brigida and several defensive structures that together show how the area was built in the early Middle Ages.

The hill was fortified by the Franks around 690 and served as a base for Boniface's mission in northern Germany. The site was an important stronghold for spreading Christianity in the region across several generations.

The site shows how early Christian missions and military power worked together, with Boniface establishing both a religious and defensive center here. Visitors can see how the church and fortress stood side by side and supported each other.

The site is accessible year-round and can be visited during walks, with the hill offering good views of the surrounding area. The best time to visit is during dry weather, as paths on the slope can become slippery.

Excavations have uncovered a large network of fortifications from the 7th and 8th centuries that was remarkably large for its time. These discoveries show that the site was one of the most important military installations in the region for centuries.
