Dresden park railway, Children's miniature railway in Dresden, Germany
The Dresden park railway is a narrow-gauge railway running 5.6 kilometers through the Grand Garden. It operates steam locomotives named Moritz and Lisa alongside electric engines.
The railway began in 1950 as an educational project teaching young people about railway operations. From the start, it aimed to teach practical skills while offering recreation to park visitors.
Over a hundred children and teenagers work as conductors, ticket inspectors, and station managers here. This role shapes their first experiences with responsibility and practical skills.
The railway operates from Easter until the end of fall holidays in Saxony, with trains departing every 15 to 30 minutes. Five different stations serve as boarding points around the route.
The railway carries around 250,000 passengers each year on narrow-gauge tracks through the Grand Garden, one of Dresden's largest parks. This volume shows how popular the journey is with visitors of all ages.
