Nienburg Abbey, Benedictine monastery in Nienburg, Germany.

The stone abbey complex includes ecclesiastical buildings and a church dedicated to Saint Mary and Saint Cyprian along the Saale River.

Founded in 975 after relocating from Thankmarsfelde, the abbey received imperial status from Emperor Otto II and gained substantial influence in the region.

The Annalista Saxo chronicle, documenting medieval German history, was written within the monastery walls around 1150.

The abbey grounds remain accessible to visitors, featuring preserved architectural elements from its construction period in the early 11th century.

The monastery buildings transformed into a castle for Anhalt widows after 1563 and later became a malt factory in 1871.
