Altes Lager Münsingen

Altes Lager Münsingen is a former military complex in Württemberg with buildings spanning the 19th and 20th centuries, ranging from barracks to training grounds. The site shows how military facilities of that era were laid out, with different building areas serving various functions and daily activities.

The site was founded in 1895 by King Wilhelm II of Württemberg as a shooting range and training ground. It served for decades as a major training facility and later witnessed the shifts and conflicts of the 20th century in the region.

The grounds are best explored on foot, and most visitors need about two to three hours to see the main buildings and exhibitions. The best time to visit is during drier weather, as some paths cross open areas that can become muddy.

An entire village called Gruorn was completely removed in 1939 to make way for military expansions at the site. This relocation demonstrates the extreme power that such strategic projects held over local communities.
