Meissen Cathedral, Lutheran cathedral in Meissen, Germany
The Gothic cathedral features two western towers reaching 81 meters high and extends 97 meters in length across the Burgberg hill.
Construction of the cathedral started in 1250 following papal indulgences, replacing a wooden chapel from 968 that served as the first cathedral.
The cathedral houses seven medieval stone figures attributed to the Master of Naumburg, representing the highest level of Saxon ecclesiastical art.
The cathedral opens daily from 9:00 to 18:00 between April and October, and from 10:00 to 16:00 from November through March.
The cathedral contains foundations of previous buildings beneath its floor, including remains of an 11th-century basilica with four towers.
