Adenauervilla

Adenauervilla is an unfinished three-story ruin in a forest near Duppach with around 600 square meters of floor space. The building sits at 605 meters elevation among dense trees and still shows the outlines of its original design, though it now appears weathered and hollow.

Construction began in 1955 as a private residence for Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, but work stopped in 1956 due to corruption allegations. The incomplete structure was then left abandoned for decades.

The building is known locally as Camp Konrad, a reference to the American presidential retreat Camp David in Maryland. This nickname reflects how Adenauer's ambitious project remains part of the region's collective memory.

The ruin can be reached via forest paths branching from the K52 road near Duppach in the Vulkaneifel region. Visitors should expect uneven ground and slippery terrain, especially after wet weather.

The building was nicknamed Camp Konrad, a reference to the American presidential retreat Camp David. The original designs included a nuclear shelter in the basement and a helicopter landing pad on the flat roof.
