Old Kupferdreh station, Railway heritage monument in Kupferdreh, Essen, Germany
The two-story brick building features decorative brickwork, windows of varied sizes, and an entrance built with ochre sandstone at 56 meters elevation.
The Prussian state railways constructed this station in 1898 near the starting point of Germany's first railway line from 1831.
The renovated first-class waiting room maintains its original stucco decoration and now functions as a dining space within the historic structure.
The Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn trains pass by this former station building without stopping, continuing to the new Essen-Kupferdreh station.
The station stands at the junction of the former Ruhr Valley Railway and the historic Hesper Valley Railway, which transported mine workers until 1973.
