Altstadt, Medieval district in Dresden, Germany
The Altstadt spans across the left bank of the Elbe River, encompassing Renaissance and Baroque buildings alongside reconstructed landmarks and grand squares.
Following the 1945 devastation, the district underwent extensive reconstruction, with the Frauenkirche restoration completed in 2005 using both original and new stones.
The district houses multiple museums within the Zwinger Palace complex, including the Porcelain Collection and Mathematics-Physics Salon displaying scientific instruments.
The Dresden Welcome Card provides unlimited public transportation access and reduced admission fees to numerous museums and attractions throughout the district.
The Fürstenzug mural stretches 101 meters along Augustusstrasse, featuring 23,000 Meissen porcelain tiles depicting Saxon rulers and notable historical figures.
