Centrum Warenhaus, Cultural heritage monument in Dresden, Germany
The Centrum Warenhaus featured a three-story structure with a distinctive aluminum hexagonal facade that created a silvery appearance across its exterior surface.
Built between 1973 and 1978, the department store emerged as a significant example of East German architectural design through collaboration between German and Hungarian architects.
The building represented modern retail development in East Germany, offering 10,400 square meters of shopping space with over 50,000 products for 60,000 daily customers.
The ground floor incorporated a three-meter setback with transparent showcase zones, while the upper levels maintained a predominantly solid facade structure.
The structure's aluminum facade elements formed an ornamental pattern that earned the building the nickname 'Silver Cube' among local residents.
