Magdeburg Central Station
Magdeburg Central Station, Central railway station in Magdeburg, Germany
The main railway station features two entrance buildings, with the eastern entrance displaying Tuscan palace architectural elements and sandstone cladding from Königslutter.
Three railway companies initiated the construction of the central station in 1870 on the grounds of the former Magdeburg Fortress, completing the project in 1893.
The station buildings represent the transformation of German railway architecture from the 19th century, combining functional design with regional building traditions.
The station connects travelers to major German cities including Berlin, Leipzig, and Stuttgart through regular intercity and regional train services.
During reconstruction in 1946, the Soviet military authorities required the station to maintain specific elements while adapting to post-war electrical systems.
