The cathedral features a prominent 93-meter-high western tower flanked by two round towers above the choir in Romanesque architectural style.
The first church at this location was built during Charlemagne's time on the site of a burned Saxon settlement near the Pader springs.
The cathedral houses the remains of Saint Liborius in its 32-meter-long crypt, making it one of the largest crypts in Germany.
The cathedral stands in the center of Paderborn's old town, directly above the spring basins of Dielenpader and Rothobornpader rivers.
The Paradise Hall, extending from the southern arm of the western transept, served as a resting place for pilgrims traveling to Santiago de Compostela.
