Alte Sollner Kirche St. Johann Baptist, Gothic church in Solln, Germany.
The Alte Sollner Kirche St. Johann Baptist is a late Gothic church in Solln with a tower reaching 64 meters high. The interior mixes late Gothic forms with Baroque elements, and two bronze bells are still operated by rope pull.
The original structure dates to 1480 and shows the Gothic building techniques of that era. Following damage from the Thirty Years' War, major restoration work in 1640 gave the building its current form.
The interior displays a Rococo altar created by Johann Baptist Straub and brought here around 1840 from a private Munich chapel. This ornate altarpiece continues to define the prayer space and shows the craftsmanship valued during the 18th century.
The church is particularly active during summer months and serves as a worship space for regular services. Visitors should plan to come during warmer months to experience it while the community is most engaged.
The south portal features decorated stone tracery that replicates the entrance design of Tückelhausen Monastery. This recreation ties the building to a Benedictine tradition and shows the respect held for that monastic community.
