Alte Synagoge, Jewish temple in Magdeburg, Germany.
The synagogue was constructed in 1851 on Schulstraße, featuring neo-Gothic architectural elements with a street-facing orientation and a tall, slender profile.
The Jewish community in Magdeburg, first documented in 965, experienced expulsion in 1492, returning only in the early 18th century to establish new prayer rooms.
The building underwent expansion in the late 19th century, incorporating Moorish-Arabic design elements to accommodate the growing Jewish congregation of Magdeburg.
The synagogue's interior was damaged during the November 1938 pogroms, with the Torah curtain from 1851 preserved and maintained by the current Jewish community.
A memorial unveiled on November 9, 1988 marks the original location, while a new synagogue opened on Julius-Bremer-Straße in December 2023.
